Yup one of the recent heated topics is China's economy.

It is exactly that too many Chinese people are living a shabby life that production quality always gets compromised since quick money has an extremely high demand and looks undeniably inviting. This is a common problem for big countries, irrespective of the choice of political system (though this problem can be mitigated with some of the alternative political choices).

"Human rights" is an artifact which the more people there are in a country, the harder to establish because astronomical amount of RESOURCES are required.

However, I am not worried about China's economy on the whole because it can always follow Japan -- the banks will keep the real capital (e.g. properties) and lend money to the young; then the debit will be transferred back to the people via the pension system (which is why it is proposed that the MPF will be taken in by the government). China, if it has an ethical financial sector to work with, can create a series of these kinds of financial tools, from "development bonds for protection against extreme weather" to "medical insurance for your kids" etc. Even someone who is not a pro in Finance like me can think up a long list of such products (buying them will be compulsory by law to the population residing in cities, esp. those in the luxury estates).

Human rights are actually achievable if China has a nice mature financial market and ethical financial specialists, and abide to the rule of sustainable development. If Japan can do it, China has no excuse if it wants to establish itself as a respectable power in the world.

Although financial tools can be blatantly evil as the past 20 years have shown, they can be made to "save the world" too. Too bad I am not the daughter of an established family so I cannot even dream to enter the upper echelon to get myself access to the "terminals" as Bill Gates was granted the key to change to world in his golden teenage years, and build a new system for years without a family burden. Now that the financial sector is mature in many parts of the developed world, it had proven to have attracted an unusual amount of people who have no interest in people's well being except their own. The game has become more complicated then just dishing out a brand new idea like Windows was (well, except it was said that some plagiarism was involved).

Things will be hard but solution still does exist. As a HKer who has never worked in the financial sector, I can only cross my fingers and wish China good luck.
