Everyone understands that it is very possible that people with the disease were dead and had not been able to get the medical help they need. If we rely on the numbers of the hospitals, it would give us a very wrong idea because it would be missing those who dropped dead and looked like they had a heart attack etc.
Many cities have been reporting that the number of dead bodies were increased by several times.
It is quite safe to assume that most of the extra fatality had been caused by COVID-19.
Assuming this virus has a similar transmission power to the common flu, then it would be obvious to say that the true death rate is several times greater than flu.
This is a bad omen because most people would remember how the hospitals got fed up every winter. If COVID-19 turns out like the flu, where vaccines can only protect some if the strain was guessed correctly, even if the death rate would be cut by half, the hospital system will still collapse...

I realized that most of the people I met outside the elite academic circle would never get a high mark in the GRE. "Wrong answers" were upheld even when challenged, and there were people who seemed totally unable to comprehend why their logic was faulty.
The judge whose professional speech had spurred social uproar looks like someone who would not pass the GRE, to my great surprise.
Some As are Bs who deserve punishment, so if some Cs look like As, then every C is a B and needs to be punished, right?
The correct answer here is: NO.
It is one thing to pity people who made such a mistake and feel sad that people were wrongly hurt due to a serious logic error. It is another thing for a JUDGE to throw away rule of law by:
1. Sympathizing with people who do irreversible damage to people who were not carrying weapons by carrying out "punishment" without a proper court.
2. Agreeing with the logic which is the core part of discrimination and terrorists' attack in addition to praising the criminal for his submission to law enforcement.
The Hong Kong Education had been very prudent in the sense that those who were not going to make it into the college were not taught how to protect themselves against systematic damage.
If someone broke your living and induced systematic damage to the whole industry, you should gather up all the victims and sue those who induced the event. That is the spirit of rule of law. Everyone is entitled to work and prosper, so stabbing people is absolutely not acceptable.
Stabbing a knife into someone who you THINK has made your purse miserable, just because she pushed you when you two had a heated argument, is a very nice demonstration of a potential criminal propensity, however. If there is a PsychoPass check available in HK, I am quite confident that that ex-guide would be a latent criminal from the start.
I sincerely believe that bad education results in collective honouring of the terrorists' mindset. In the 5000 years of "Chinese history", most people of all eras had been deprived of high-quality education resources and the Chinese Culture that remained after all the years of turmoils, was unfortunately corrupted to the core, which had resulted in the current fart.
I want to say that I was able to appreciate the grace of GRE more and more over the years. If I were to take another one, I would very gladly do so this time.
But earlier this week I saw one of them who expressed his view on a healthy relationship in SCMP and I like that article and thought may be there are still some good guys out there.
The article says that if you are afraid to raise your honest opinion when you are in the relationship due to co-dependency, then it is not a good sign.
People should help each other but not forever so. If you are not able to do something now, you should learn to do it later. If you are no good at something in the past, you should try to improve and learn.
If the relationship becomes the reason that the participants won't grow, then they would be dependent to the point that if they raise a voice which might not be pleasant to the other, they would pose a danger to themselves.
Dependency is evil but temporary ones are acceptable. The CP pointed out that many are engaged in unhealthy relationships because they grew in in such so they built more as they age.
To me, that article, which seemed to be about romantic relationship at a glance, was actually a poignant comment on the 5K years of Chinese culture.
We are not supposed to revolutionize our political system to create a better society. We are not supposed, as a kid, to force our parents to provide us a more nurturing environment. As couples, we are told that it is the truth that each are highly dependent with each other. We are told not to change a tradition even if it is doing harm to all because "we are Chinese, we have traditions, we don't change".
As a result, the Chinese are being despised by most developed countries, and the Chinese government is openly building relationship starring dependency as the core with other developing countries.
In my eyes, it is not healthy to the world. Independence should be promoted for a prosperous and peaceful world where people can have a good life and are able to respect each other.

This time, they have decided to venture into the philosophical relationship of artists and the audience with magnificent artwork to tell the story.
I particularly like the style of this original work. The color plan is gentle and the character designs are natural-looking.
The resulting quality is exhilarating and I am looking forward to a masterpiece.
It takes quite some courage to admit that the devouring dark acts often come from "would-be players". People often cannot control themselves when they want something but cannot get it. Art is a tool which takes much work to complete and is not as useful as it should be if the author just tries to express oneself.
It is exactly when hearts are joined that the true power is drawn but power is always dangerous and it could be so disastrous that it get itself banned after a big slip.
Just as where Echo lived and worked, this work picks up bits and pieces from many famous work on the same topic and recombines it into a retro-feeling story.
I have great expectation of this anime.

I accidentally stumbled onto the episodes on YouTube and I couldn't pull my eyes off the handsome characters. I live in a downtown area where the guys are either old or look miserable, and work in places where guys never have the confident and austere body language a model policeman should have.
Yup, it's as simple as that. It certainly testifies how well the artwork is, and that the character design has worked as it should have been.
Looking at the credits reveals that many top anime companies had worked hard on the art, producing such excellent fruits of computer-aided anime technology.
The story is as vulgar in the logic as any AV could have been. Well, vulgarity is NEVER about how much sex organs are exposed, but the explicitness of things people should be modest about. This is why biological illustrations of sex organs and details of reproduction can be shown to minors, but not AVs.
I have to emphasize that I am not saying that the story itself is rubbish -- if the audience can be made into reflecting on the value of money and how money should be used in a society, vulgarity is totally a justified tool in this case.

Quite a number of animals are intelligent enough to understand the process of farming. Just that no one cares to do so.
"Why would you do so much things when most of the time we have food ready for us to consume?"
The one who farmed had ancestors who lived long enough to witness and survived a famine. The story was told to the horror of its descendants and farming seemed to be able to remove the fear for most.
"But didn't every time when the climate was out, your fields failed on you also?"
The happiness of seeing a whole field of food as a result of the year's work, had brought joy to life, which is significantly much longer than dogs, cats and other animals of similar physique. Agricultural products don't run away when fed on, so you don't need to search and hunt for it. It is there where you plant it.
"However, you fight over the surplus food, and the surplus food always brings about an expanding population which leads to wars fighting over more land to farm."
The tension of having a fair fight is more exciting than fighting with, for example, tigers or bears, which are much larger and naturally more lethal with each attack. The chance to fight on equal terms brings about improvements in fighting skills and seeds courage in the cowardly hearts. Intelligence brings not only the power to find a solution, but at a prepaid-price of feeling where the problem is and being bugged about it.
"Why don't you guys just submit to nature? Dying is a part of life, be it being consumed by predators or by old age, as well as lack of food."
It is sad not being able to change the fated loss.
When one is intelligent to have the concept of "fate", it hurts when you feel you are not able to change things into a better state, not matter what you do or not do. "Fate" is not the same as "the laws of nature" -- not everyone gets consumed by predators or die of famine -- it involves a comparison of lives and an aesthetic judgement of one instance over another.
Intelligence brings a species to a different civilization level when they acknowledge that there are many possibilities of how they can live and they can work to grab one which they like better.
Different civilizations come to a different definition of what is better and work accordingly. Intelligence can bring civilizations to a higher level when histories are accumulated and collective wisdom on what and how is better emerges.
